Electronics Records Management System (ERMS)

Electronics Records Management System (ERMS)

Problem Statement

To comply with current SOX regulations, Wood Group determine that their Electronic Records Management System (ERMS) required modernization. Part of the modernization initiative involved improving the system’s search engine. The engine needed to be user-friendly,  reliable, and fast. In support of this initiative, our team was asked to conduct a substantive review of the system and recommend improvements.

Final Product

A component of the modernization effort involved providing a responsive, mobile interface. Our research also discovered that users required the ability to create and preserve their search criteria for frequently searched terms. Moreover, the users required the ability to create and store custom layouts of their search results to generate exportable reports.

Process

1. Analysis and User Experience Research

Our team initiated a usability study to capture user behavior, pain points, motivations, and an overall impression of the existing UI.

The UX study we conducted, identified several gaps, opportunities for improvement, and feature bloat. As a result, the team was able to specifically pinpoint improvements that the development team could incorporate in future release candidates.

 2. Wireframe and Prototype

After prioritizing issues identified during the UX study, our team presented the usability findings to the development team during our Joint Application Design (JAD) session. We created a wireframe that we used to illustrate the impact of each of our findings. Based on our recommendations, the development team was able to produce a high-fidelity prototype.

3. A/B Testing

During A/B testing, our new design overwhelmingly became the test subject favorite.
