Enterprise Document Management System (EDMS)
Problem Statement
Wood Group merged two of its business unit under one leadership model. The business units remained mostly intact, but there were some functional overlaps. To help the employees in each business unit understand their roles and responsibilities and see how each department would work together in the new structure, a map was created. Unfortunately, the map was not well received by the employees because it did not provide clarity regarding the new structure, nor did it inspire unity under the new leadership model. Our team was tasked with redesigning the map.
Final Product
The new design incorporated the Wood Group logo, emphasizing how both business units would work together to support a common vision. The map served as both an org chart and as the EDMS front end. The new front end provided access to documents published by each business unit. In addition, a variety of search features and filters were incorporated to fulfill distinct business unit needs.
Process
1. Analysis
The team performed a SWOT analysis to identify the strengths and weakness of the original design. We found that users appreciated the subway metaphor, but were confused and uninspired by the map design.

2. Wireframe and Low Fidelity Prototype
A wireframe was created and presented to project stakeholders. Once we obtained stakeholder support, we produced a prototype to present to users.
3. A/B Testing
Once the prototypes were complete, we conducted A/B testing with a variety of business unit owners. With the help of my team, we captured usability findings such as user behavior, pain points, thoughts, feelings, and hands-on interaction.
4. High Fidelity Prototype
Upon completing a usability retrospective, we presented the finding at our joint application design (JAD) session. We incorporated all critical path items into a high fidelity mockup that I later coded into a functioning release candidate.
